We've been remiss
/I started The Slurve at the beginning of the 2013 season because I thought I could provide a service and have a lot of fun.
And I have! Along the way, I’ve delivered a newsletter aggregating the best writing about baseball, with lots of fun items, along with all the essential news about all 30 teams in the Major Leagues every single day during last season and this one.
The Slurve's subscribers are informed about the entire league without spending all day looking for it. The Slurve puts it together and organizes it each morning.
But the Slurve is also a business, and while I’ve been diligent about delivering the product there are other areas where I’ve been behind. And one of them is promotion.
Time to remedy that.
I think there are at least 600 people out there who bold enough to subscribe to The Slurve as we head into the end of the season. They are fans of the whole game, not just their team.
Here’s why you should subscribe to The Slurve in the last 39 days of the season.
Because you are just getting back from vacation and this September stretch is too good to miss.
Because so much is happening right now. Just a few weeks ago people were pencilling in the Athletics and Tigers for the ALCS. Then the Angels overtook the A’s and looked like a juggernaut until their ace pitcher was injured this week. The Angels and A's play a crucial series this weekend.
If the season ended tonight the Royals would have their first playoff birth since 1985.
Because there’s a good chance that Felix Hernandez will be pitching a play-in game, a Wild Card Game, or in a playoff series.
Because of Mike Trout.
And Anthony Rendon.
Because the 2014 comeback stories about Mariners' pitcher Chris Young can give a troubled and beset man hope.
Because Buck Showalter’s boys are leading the AL East.
Because otherwise you’ll miss when a writer compares Bartolo Colon’s at-bats to a Corgi falling off an ottoman.
Because these young Cubs are making fans excited about the next decade of baseball. And the Padres are having an amazing second half that is making you rethink the NL West for next year.
Because the Nationals have had five walk-off wins in their last six games. That's insane.
Because our daily trivia questions stretch your mind and reacquaint you with a great history of the game.
Because the surge of players from Cuba reminds us how dazzling baseball can be.
Because otherwise you’d spend all day looking for this news and analysis and still miss some of it.
Because our business model is subscriber-first. We don’t sell your information. We don’t violate your privacy. We don’t fill up our newsletter with ads.
Because it is fun to be in on something early and watch it grow. As we grow the roll of customers, I can do more things with the product. I can add new features, build out a code-base to do more original analysis, I can add more original reporting and other features to the great aggregation. If the business grew four-fold, I would have to think about hiring someone for the expanded work.
And because there are big surprises on the way to subscribers in the offseason and as we head into Spring Training. You don’t want to miss it.
